Letter of Interest

The Department of Veterans Affairs and the American Society of Nephrology cordially invite you to apply to attend the Kidney Innovation Summit to be held February 9-10, 2017 in Washington, DC.  With more than 20 million Americans affected by kidney disease and more than 650,000 reliant on dialysis or a transplant to stay alive, the approach to kidney disease requires transformation.  As the 9th leading cause of death every year, kidney disease kills more people than breast or prostate cancer: the need for innovation is imperative.

Who can attend?  We are inviting up to 150 subject matter experts and stakeholders from US government agencies, industry, non-profits, patient groups, and academia.  The majority of the attendees are currently developing, prototyping, testing, or piloting innovations across a diversity of topics related to kidney disease.  Whether you are currently innovating or have a desire to innovate we welcome your letter of interest to attend.

What are the goals of the Summit?  The main goals are to advance innovation in kidney disease by sharing knowledge and sparking collaborations between VA, industry, non-profits, patient organizations and other Federal agency stakeholders.

What is considered to be an “innovation?”  Innovation can be defined in many ways – for the purpose of this Summit we are interested in converting new ideas into impact for kidney disease patients and providers. These innovations may be based in IT, data-driven decision making, devices, care delivery and coordination processes, policies, education, platforms, or entirely new care models.

What can I expect from the Summit? The Summit is structured as an intensive 2-day knowledge sharing, networking, and open discussion event to identify areas of potential collaboration across the topics of chronic kidney disease, renal replacement therapy (dialysis), and kidney transplant.  Information exchange will occur through lightning talks, panel and roundtable discussions, and an innovation showcase.  Attendees may also have the opportunity to pitch their innovation to the crowd!

This letter of interest is due by the end of the day, January 4, 2017 and selectees will be notified by email by January 13, 2017.
