GP Practice Operations Manager Level 5 Apprenticeship


The GP Practice Operations Manager Apprenticeship is a government-funded programme designed to upskill staff in primary care settings to lead teams, manage services, and drive improvements.

Over a 16-20 month period, individuals learn:

Leadership and People Management
Lead and support teams with confidence, empathy, and accountability
Healthcare Policy and Compliance
Ensure your practice meets CQC, HSE, and NHS contractual obligations
Service and Project Management
Design, lead, and evaluate service improvements and operational projects
Resource Planning and Finance
Manage budgets, staff rotas, and business continuity plans
Data, IT, and Systems
Use tools like EMIS, QOF, Excel, and dashboards to drive performance
Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate effectively with patients, staff, PCNs, and external bodies
Quality Improvement and Risk Management
Implement quality initiatives and proactively manage risks and complaints
The apprenticeship is ideal for the likes of senior administrators, deputy managers, operations managers and practice managers looking to formalise and enhance their operational leadership skills.

Learners allocate 6 hours of their working week to the apprenticeship, which is split between lectures and workshops, self -paced learning and the practical application of skills.

Upon completion of the programme, learners receive a Government accredited apprenticeship qualification at Level 5.

The apprenticeship supports the NHS 10 Year Plan by developing essential capabilities in leadership and change management to power transformation.
