Stay with Scholastic

Benefit:
If we choose to keep a portion of our profit in “Scholastic Dollars” we keep more of our funds. We have traditionally split this amount as 1) cash (to fund other PTA projects) and 2) Scholastic Dollars, which we have saved for students in need of financial support to attend the fair and as stipends for teachers & staff to use at the Book Fair the following school year. We have not used our Scholastic Dollars to purchase additional items the school might need such as rugs, new books or furniture but could in the future.

Downsides:
If we do NOT keep any $ in Scholastic Dollars, we receive less of our profit. Keeping $ in Scholastic Dollars means that a portion of our profit has to be spent with Scholastic. Scholastic only stocks Scholastic books.

Partner with a local bookstore rather than Scholastic

Benefit:
$ stays local, less restrictions on how our money is spent, potentially access to more titles

Downside:
Unknown profit and setup, potentially in-store shopping or pre-ordering as only option(s)
