Course Overview: This 7 hour training program is designed to provide an overview of the IAS Accreditation Criteria AC291 and ISO/IEC 17020 requirements affecting Special Inspection Agencies (SIA). See the second page below for a full course agenda.


The training will provide an overview of the following items to describe how engineering firms and individual engineers can achieve accreditation:

c. Timelines for submittals and reviews

d. Assessment process

e. What are the costs?

f. How to put together the quality documentation? Format, Structure and Contents.

g. Overview of IAS Accreditation Criteria AC291

h. Overview of other accreditation issues

The program offers its participants an insight into effectively managing the quality management system pertaining to the agency’s special inspection requirements. Further, the training session will include presentation based on IAS staff assessment experiences as a result of field visits and insights from the quality system review.
The technical issues will include steel related inspections and reporting of those inspections illustrating topics such as welding, bolting and non-destructive testing. The program includes discussions and exercises and requires an understanding of basic quality concepts. This training program will benefit both the technical and management personnel directly involved in special inspection administration and/or field inspection activities. Quality Managers, technical supervisors, inspection personnel and code enforcement personnel involved in implementing special inspection agency requirements under the code will find this program beneficial and an invaluable tool for decision making. The training session has been approved by the Practicing Institute of Engineering, Inc (PIE) for compliance with NYS Mandatory Continuing Education requirements for Professional Engineers for 7 PDH(s).
