Dear Friend

On Saturday, 1 July 2023, Howard Warrington completed his 151st Robben Island Crossings. A Robben Island Crossing of 7.5 km is swam between Robben Island and Blouberg, and is a challenge to even accomplished swimmers, mostly due to the cold water temperatures (average 13/14 degrees), challenging sea conditions and sea life. Howard swims all of them in a Speedo! On average a single crossing takes Howard 2 hours and 20 minutes to complete (closer to 3 hours in rough sea conditions). Howard is currently the record holder for the most crossings

Howard will continue to do these crossings until he reach his fundraising target of R150,000! He is doing this to create awareness and raise funds for the work of Distance For Difference (D4D). He still has R105,500 to go! (click here for for examples of the kind of projects that will benefit through his fundraising efforts)

D4D has been raising funds for children's charities since 2005. They have raised more than R11 Million for children in need over the years. They are also the hosts of two amazing sporting fundraising events, The GRATITUDE Run and THE500 24hr Cycling and Spinning Challenge.

The Robben Island Crossing is the iconic and most popular swim to do in Cape Town, because of the historical and political significance of Robben Island which is a World Heritage Site. For more about this iconic swim: https://cldsa.co.za/
