The CPSC is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that educates and advocates for producer responsibility and product stewardship to reduce the cost burden of managing waste problems at a product's end-of-life. We have several pilot projects throughout the state that provide opportunities for those interested in addressing textile waste. Below is a call for designers, renovators, recyclers and processors who can take in unwanted clothing and textiles to make and sell new products.

Materials to be used by contractors will be provided through CPSC’s various pilot projects. After submission, we will contact you to let you know which opportunities you qualify for, which include, but are not limited to:
  1. Upcycling materials recovered in Los Angeles and San Francisco
  2. Repairing garments, such as basic cleaning and traditional mending
  3. Innovative repairs, such as visible mends, patches, re-coloration
  4. Designing new uses for commonly found items in the waste stream
  5. Recycle or reprocess unusable textiles

The call is open to all legal businesses in California that meet minimum insurance requirements ($1 mill general liability) and applicable garment manufacturing or contracting state license(s). While we seek a range of contractors and expertise priority will be given to:

• Los Angeles and San Francisco-based companies
• Processes and projects that align with the waste hierarchy (Repair over Repurpose over Recycle)
• The ability to sell your own products on an established platform

The first deadline was Friday, November 19th, 2021, but ongoing submissions are accepted for future opportunities.

Not all applicants will qualify for the funded opportunities. Selection does not guarantee on-going work, but that you will be added to our pool of potential contractors who will be chosen based on the needs of our various projects and as funds are available. The surveys for the CPSC Textile Recovery Projects serve to build a database of textiles professionals across the state of California. The submission of a survey does not guarantee eligibility or selection for a funded opportunity. CPSC staff will contact each candidate to confirm receipt and evaluate eligibility.

While we may not have work available immediately, we encourage you to apply as we are always interested in potential partners for future grant projects and would love to add your company or service to our growing database.
