Thank you for pledging participation in the Summer Farm Fresh Challenge and committing to incorporate more local foods into your site meals and snacks during June 10-21, 2019. The Challenge helps celebrate TDA's Farm Fresh Initiative and is open to all contracting entities (CEs) participating in the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and Seamless Summer Option (SSO).

As part of your participation in the Farm Fresh Challenge, TDA will send you the following materials to support your celebration of Farm Fresh activities and local products served in sites participating in SFSP/SSO.

"I Tried Local" Sticker: This item can be used as a child incentive for trying a food made with local ingredients. TDA will mail each CE 120 stickers per participating site, up to 6,000 total stickers, while supplies last.

"We Serve Local"
Button
: This item is for nutrition team members to show support for serving local food in meals and snacks.
TDA will mail each CE 5 buttons per participating site, up to 250 total buttons, while supplies last.

"Local Foods Served Here" Low-tack Sticker: This item will adhere to windows seen by family members to promote the program's participation in the Farm Fresh Initiative.
TDA will mail each CE 1 low-tack sticker per participating site, up to 13 total stickers per CE, while supplies last.

Print specs and high resolution artwork will be provided for all of these items and more on SquareMeals.org/FarmFreshChallengeSFSP, to allow programs to edit and print the correct quantity for their programs.

Participation and Recognition

Eat Local.  Serve 3 or more Texas foods from different meal components (e.g., milk, grain, and vegetable) during June 10-21, 2019.
Teach Local. Host 2 or more educational opportunities at each site during June 10-21, 2019 - See examples below for examples of educational opportunities.
Be Social. Share at least 1 post on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter using #FarmFreshTexas to build community awareness of your Farm Fresh Challenge participation. If you don't use social media, that's okay! Share your Farm Fresh activities in your newsletter and bulletin boards and send photos to FarmFresh@TexasAgriculture.gov.

TDA will recognize all SFSP or SSO contracting entities that complete the Farm Fresh Challenge and submit an attestation form after completing the Challenge. The attestation form can be accessed on Squaremeals.org/FarmFreshChallengeSFSP. It collects information about local products served, dollars spent on Texas products, details about hosted educational activities and social activity. This information will help us celebrate the amount of Texas products program participants enjoyed during the Farm Fresh Challenge. The attestation form must be completed by July 5, 2019.

Farm Fresh educational activities include any activity that educates children about local food and agriculture. You may use one of TDA’s Farm Fresh Fridays celebration ideas and resources or create your own.
