(Applications submitted during late spring or during the summer will be reviewed prior to the next school year's first meeting.)


Selection Criteria: This committee is mandated by the district's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)'s Improving Adolescent Well-Being Through What Works in Schools Program cooperative agreement (CDC-RFA-DP-24-0139) and supports all grant-required activities. SHEAC members must also sign and return a Membership Agreement prior to their first SHEAC meeting stating their commitment to assist in implementing all CDC grant, state, and district requirements and policies. SHEAC has a maximum of 20 members plus up to 5 additional current SDUSD student members. Per CDC guidelines, SHEAC members must:
  1. Attend online meetings regularly, typically on a Wednesday of most months from 4:00-5:00pm.
  2. Have some knowledge of the science of HIV/STIs and current evidence-based HIV/STI/unplanned pregnancy prevention methods.
  3. Serve all district students directly as a staff member, community partner, student, and/or parent of a current district student.
  4. Agree to provide guidance to the district's Sexual Health Education Program (SHEP) and other district efforts intended to implement and uphold:
    • The framework and requirements of the California Healthy Youth Act.
    • The Board-approved Rights, Respect, Responsibility curriculum in grade 6, grade 8, and high school.
    • Strategies to communicate minors' rights to access sexual health services in accordance with California state laws and district policy.
    • Programs to support safe school environments for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, nonbinary, and gender expansive students.
