1. Strategisation and Diagnostic Background

‘Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory.
Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.’

Sun Tzu, ancient Chinese strategist, military leader, philosopher, author of The Art of War.

Too often, people evaluate the effectiveness of a strategy based on business performance. Is the business growing? Is the business profitable?

The quality of current business results doesn’t always reflect the effectiveness of the strategy or its implementation. Operating results may reflect external environments such as market growth or economic contraction rather than the underlying strategy itself.

In our book: 'Strategisation - The art of mobilising people to implement a winning strategy', we highlight the critical success factors needed to create and implement a great strategy.

This diagnostic is an adaption of our checklist in Chapter 2 and should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
