Pride in Place funding, in partnership with Rossendale Borough Council, Newchurch Village Community Association and Proffitts are developing plans to improve two important walking routes on the Staghills Estate: the footpath from Woodside Crescent and The Heys Walkway. The proposals, also supported by the Lancashire Environmental Fund, aim to make these routes safer, more accessible and more welcoming for everyone. They include:
- Improving and repairing path surfaces.
- Cutting back overhanging vegetation.
- Checking and repairing street lighting where required.
- Installing new directional signage.
- Planting native bulbs, wildflowers and woodland shrubs to enhance biodiversity.
- Installing bird boxes within the woodland.
- Creating community artwork to celebrate the local area
A plan showing the two routes and the proposed improvements is provided below.
