The 2008 General Conference of The United Methodist Church enacted the following resolution regarding socially responsible investing.

The General Board of Church and Society, the General Board of Global Ministries, the General Board of Pension and Health Benefits, The United Methodist Church Foundation and the National Association of United Methodist Foundations shall convene a joint task force, under the leadership of The United Methodist Church Foundation, for the purpose of establishing, implementing and promoting a common standard for determining prohibited investments and positive investment principles that are consistent with The United Methodist Social Principles and that can be utilized by both individual and institutional investors, including attempts to engage in holy conferencing with companies. We urge the Task Force to seriously consider global human rights needs, for example, the Middle East, Sudan and China. This task force shall report its progress to the 2012 General Conference.
As called for in the resolution, the Task Force has convened with representatives from the organizations listed in the resolution. The Task Force recognizes that there are numerous other individuals and institutions affiliated with The United Methodist Church that invest funds and wants to ensure that it considers the views and opinions of as many UMC investors as reasonably possible. Therefore, the Task Force asks that you or the appropriate representative of your organization complete this brief survey regarding your investing practices. We thank you in advance for your valued input. The survey should take no longer than five (5) minutes.
