A vacancy have  arisen for community members from the PPN Environment College to take up a position on;
 
  • Strategic Policy Committee 1 (SPC 1) Housing & Corporate Policy 
Nominations are now being sought for a Sligo PPN member from the
  • Environment College (1 person) to take up the seat on SPC1

IMPORTANT NOTES
Please get consent from the proposed nominee to ensure GDPR compliance and to confirm that they will be able to fulfil the required commitments of the role before making the nomination.
  • Ensure name is as nominee wishing it to appear on the ballot paper.
  • A personal statement of up to 150 words including the reason for standing for election should be provided to let voters know a bit about the candidate.
  • An appropriate photograph must be uploaded for inclusion with the voting papers.
  • Please note information provided must be factual, appropriate and inoffensive.
  • Associate members are not eligible to nominate or vote in PPN elections.
  • Each full PPN member group is entitled to nominate one person.
  • A PPN representative can only sit on 1 county committee (plus Secretariat)
  • Nominations can only be made by the Environment College 
  • Nominees should be members of the nominating group
  • Nominating groups must be registered within County Sligo. Sligo PPN primarily operates at community group level - it is therefore the address and MD under which the group is registered, not the individual members, that is considered.

Elected representatives, employees and retirees of Local Authorities cannot be nominated.  If anyone nominated through this process subsequently decides to enter electoral politics he/she must immediately resign their PPN representative role.  A person who has been an elected representative of any level of Government (local or national) should not be chosen to represent PPN in any representative role for one year after completing their term of office.

A returning officer, selected by Sligo PPN/Sligo County Council, will decide if nominations are valid.  Nominees will be informed of the validity of their nominations in due course.  
POLITICAL AFFILIATION AND ACTIVITIES

PPN Representation is based on volunteer-led organisations and must be a separate process from the political process. As per Department of Rural and Community Development, the following applies:

·       Elected representatives of Local Authorities, Oireachtas members or European Parliament members cannot be nominated through the PPN process.

·       If anyone nominated to the PPN through this process subsequently decides to enter electoral politics, at either Local Authority, National or European level, they must immediately resign their PPN representative role when they declare their candidacy.

·       A person who has stood for election or been co-opted, or who has been an elected representative on any level of government (Local, National or European) may not be chosen to represent the PPN on any representative role for one year after the date of the election or after completing their term of office

·       Elected PPN representatives may not operate as a Local Area Representative for a political party.
