Sherrill Community Pool- Community Survey |
A Community Asset at a Crossroads
The Sherrill Community Pool has served our community for over 55 years. A 2024 engineering report identified significant structural issues with the existing pool, with repair costs estimated between $750,000 and $1 million, addressing structure only, not mechanical systems, pool house, or other improvements.
• Repairs would extend the pool’s life but not modernize or fully upgrade the facility
• Annual operating costs are approximately $100,000 - 120,000, with less than $20,000 in revenue, for an annual net operating expense of $80,000 - $100,000
• The pool operates about 8 weeks (55 days) each summer

How the Pool is Used Today
• Approximately 6% of Sherrill households use the pool (about 400+ residents)
• An additional ~400 non-residents use the facility each season
• About 150 children participate in swim lessons annually
2025 Community Input
In 2025, the City surveyed residents on repairing the existing pool:
• 53% supported a tax increase to repair the aging pool
• 47% did not support a tax increase
At that time, the full cost would have been 100% borne by local taxpayers.
A New Opportunity – NY SWIMS Grant
The City of Sherrill has been awarded $2.6 million in New York State funding, covering 80% of the project cost.
• The City’s share is 20%, equal to $650,000
• No tax increase is required specifically for this project
This shifts the conversation from local repair costs to a State-supported investment in a new facility.
Proposed Project
• New fully accessible zero-entry pool for all ages and abilities
• Interactive splash pad
• Renovations to the existing pool house
• Modern, accessible, and long-term improvements
