I am sure that you have heard the government are requesting that teachers, leaders and curriculum designers submit evidence to the curriculum and assessment review.

At NATRE we feel that the strongest advocates for our subject are the pupils in your classrooms. We would therefore like you to ask them about the subject, what they like and what they would like to see in the future. The curriculum and assessment review is asking for the following evidence:

The review is seeking evidence on how the curriculum and assessment system can ensure all young people are prepared for life and work. The main purpose of the review is to ensure that the curriculum balances ambition, relevance, flexibility and inclusivity for all children and young people, including:
· An excellent foundation in core subjects of reading, writing and maths
· A broader curriculum, so that young people do not miss out on subjects such as music, art, sport and drama, as well as vocational subjects
· A curriculum that ensures children and young people leave compulsory education ready for life and ready for work. This includes embedding digital, oracy and life skills in the curriculum
· A curriculum that reflects the issues and diversities of our society, ensuring all children and young people are represented
· An assessment system that captures the strengths of every child and young person and the breadth of curriculum, with the right balance of assessment methods whilst maintaining the important role of examinations
For this reason we are pleased to be able to use some of the questions from the RE Quality Mark to gather this information. It would be really helpful if you could speak to your classes at the start/end of a lesson and gather a selection of responses to the attached question. As a serving teacher, I recommend recording their responses on paper and then choosing a selection before submitting them to our survey monkey form. It is really important that as teachers, you choose quotes that clearly represent the subject and share pupil views. Once you have submitted the quotes from children, we can use them as a sample as part of the evidence that NATRE gives to the curriculum review. Please do include the year group that the children are in but do not share their names within the form.

Please submit up to 12 of your pupils’ responses (one or two into each box on the survey) and the wonderful team at NATRE will do the rest. Please note that we need a fast turn around on this due to the dates given from the government, and the need for NATRE to work through submissions. Therefore, please ensure that your quotes are submitted via our online form by 8th November 2024.

Thank you as always for being excellent advocates for RE.
