The International Science Council (ISC) has been asked by UNISDR to help coordinate the participation of the Scientific & Technological community in the 2019 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction taking place on 13-17 May 2019 in Geneva, Switzerland .

On the margins of the Global Platform, on 13-14 May 2019, we are planning a Science Policy Forum for the Implementation of the Sendai Framework, together with UNISDR, the UNISDR Science Technology Advisory Group (STAG) and IRDR (Integrated Research on Disaster Risk).

The key objectives of the Science Policy Forum are:

  1. To share and review progress in global, regional, national and local implementation of science based policy making, risk sensitive development as a basis for enhanced engagement between science and policy for risk-informed decision making across the 2030 Agenda;
  2. To identify the key knowledge gaps and opportunities to strengthen the contributions of science to delivering the Sendai Framework including through the operationalization of the Science and Technology Roadmap for DRR;
  3. To commit collectively to enhanced collaboration for an integrated science approach to DRR, climate change and sustainable development.

We are reaching out to you to assess your interest in participating in the 2019 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction as a member of the Scientific and Technological (S&T) community, in participating in the Science Policy Forum organized on the margins of the Global Platform, and being part of a resource group contributing to the preparations of the Science Policy Forum.
