Scholarship Application Instructions

Deadline for Submission: October 15, 2017

The US Human Rights Network is pleased to offer limited scholarships to help advance our mission of growing and strengthening a human rights movement and culture within the United States.

Below is our scholarship application to support member participation in our biannual national conference ADVANCING HUMAN RIGHTS 2017: Heal, Reflect, Strategize.

Important Information
• The conference will take place in Atlanta, Georgia from December 7-10, 2017.
• The scholarship will cover partial travel and hotel costs, including for hotel, airfare, train, vehicle rental, and fuel costs. USHRN scholarships do not cover meals and incidentals or local transportation in the conference host city, including travel to/from the airport. We only cover transportation to and from the conference host city.
• Scholarship recipients are responsible to pay registration costs. Registration includes breakfast and lunch on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
• Scholarship recipients are expected to volunteer up to two hours during the conference, assisting with event registration, tabling, room set-up, time-keeping, or other tasks that support a smooth convening.
• USHRN will pay some vendors directly on behalf of the scholarship recipient. In instances where the scholarship recipients cover their own travel costs, the recipient must send original receipts to the Coordinating Center office. Reimbursement will be received within 30 days of receipt.
• The deadline for receiving applications is 5pm Eastern on October 15, 2017.
• Late applications will not be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
USHRN will prioritize organizations and individuals who meet the following criteria for stipends: people directly impacted by human rights violations that they advocate on and dues paying USHRN members. In addition, USHRN gives special consideration to broad representation of issues; grassroots organizations with limited resources; active participants in USHRN taskforces, committees, and action teams; and persons with a demonstrated commitment to promoting human rights work in the U.S. Special consideration will also be given to organizations and individuals who have not received funding in the past.

Expectations of Recipients
Recipients of assistance are expected to attend the entirety of the biannual conference. If scholarship recipients are not able to use funds that have been awarded, the recipient will be responsible for notifying USHRN IMMEDIATELY so that those funds can be made available to others. USHRN scholarship recipients are also expected to abide by our guiding principles and code of conduct. USHRN may ask scholarship recipients to report back and share lessons learned either in writing or as part of a follow-up event.
