Pilot plazas were selected through PBOT’s first-ever Open Call for Plaza Partners, which invited community groups across the city to propose locations and ideas for new public spaces. The process emphasized local leadership, community benefit, and geographic equity, resulting in a diverse set of projects that reflect the unique needs and character of their neighborhoods. As Pilot Plazas they will each go through an evaluation to determine their future status.
The 8 to 12 week trial, including the survey, are the means to evaluate pilot plazas. In addition to the survey, staff are tracking feedback and metrics on how active the space is, how well it is stewarded, is the site layout functioning/traffic control working, how is the partnership going with PBOT and the Plaza Partner, and more.
The results of the survey and the evaluation will be shared publicly on our webpage, and a physical sign will be added to the pilot site with information about how to find these results.
