Additional Residential Units (ARUs)

Additional Residential Units (ARUs) are self-contained homes located within the same building, or on the same lot, as a detached house, semi-detached house or rowhouse. They can be located within the interior of the existing house (example: basement), in an existing garage, or by constructing a detached unit on the property or as an addition to an existing building.

Two (2) ARUs are permitted provided that the following criteria are met:
- a detached house, semi-detached house or rowhouse is permitted,
- lots are in the settlement area boundary (e.g. not on agricultural lands), and
- lots are served by municipal sewage works and municipal drinking water system

The ARU must meet applicable zoning by-law requirements (e.g., setbacks, and parking of one space per ARU).
11.Have you considered constructing an ARU?
12.If you have considered constructing an ARU, were there any zoning requirements that posed a challenge? Please describe.
13.Should vehicular parking be required for an ARU?
14.Do you have any concerns or suggestions regarding how home businesses are regulated in Town?
15.Are there any matters not mentioned that you would like to be addressed in the new Zoning By-law?
