Informed Consent

Informed Consent 
     You are invited to be a participant in a research study conducted by Jordan Johnson and Alexa Simpkins at the University of Rio Grande & Rio Grande Community College. You will be among more than 200 participant adults aged 18 or older responding to this study. We ask you to read this form and contact us with any questions you may have before agreeing to participate in the study. Contact information is provided below. 
     The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between of Self-Actualization and romantic attachments. You will be asked to honestly answer questions regarding your feelings towards yourself and your romantic partner, as well as some background questions.  
     Your responses will be anonymous and there will not be any way for us to link your identity to any response you give. Your responses will not be linked to you name, or your email or IP address. Your responses will not be linked to you through your participation via Psychological Research on the Net. At the end of this form, you will be given the chance to give your consent to participate or to opt out of participation. Your responses will be reported in summary form which also cannot identify specific participants. The summary findings may used in future research. 
     Your participation is completely voluntary, and your decision to participate or not to participate will not affect any current or future relationship with The University of Rio Grande & Rio Grande Community College. If you decide to participate, you have the right to withdraw from the study at any time without penalty. You have the right to skip any question that you do not feel comfortable answering and still remain in the study. Your participation will take about 35-40 minutes. 
     Completing this study may gain for you some insight into yourself and psychology. You may come to understand how you feel about yourself, and your partner, to a greater degree. It is possible though, that you will experience no direct benefit from this study. You will not be directly compensated or paid for your participation in this study. 
We anticipate no more than minimal risk of harm to you in this study. Specifically, it is possible that some questions may arouse unpleasant feelings. We do not expect such feelings to be long lasting or substantial. In fact, it is unlikely that anyone participating in this study would experience any discomfort at all, and you are free to exit the study at any time if you feel uncomfortable by closing the web browser. However, if you think you need to discuss your feelings about this study with a counselor, you can find one local to you at the following website: http://locator.apa.org/. We strongly encourage you to print this page for your records. 
     The last page of the survey will be a debriefing in which you will be given additional information regarding the study, including our hypotheses.      This project has been approved by the Dr. Rogers at the University of Rio Grande & Rio Grande Community College. Please note that agreeing to participate in this study does not waive any legal right which you are otherwise entitled to. Also, please note that the investigator may terminate in this study at any time without participant consent.
