Introduction
The Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) and high-integrity carbon credits can unlock urgently needed private capital that would not otherwise be available to reduce and remove billions of tons of Greenhouse Gas emissions, particularly in emerging markets. Indigenous People and Local Communities (IPs & LCs) are stewards of critical ecosystems worldwide, and potential hosts for or have active projects generating carbon credits.

It is of primary importance that carbon-credit generation projects or programs deliver sustainable development benefits for communities, ranging from financial profit, project ownership, job generation and well-being.

An active and inclusive engagement forum can unify voices across the VCM, strengthening IPs & LCs market engagement, and growing IPs & LCs participation as shareholders, delivering benefits such as income opportunities, and biodiversity protection.

The Forum is a common space where together, public and private specialist agencies and organisations, market actors and representatives of IPs & LCs and the wider VCM support IPs & LCs. We strongly encourage applications from women and individuals from diverse backgrounds. We are committed to fostering a forum reflecting the richness of perspectives and experiences from IPs and LCs.

Governing Board Member Role
Members of the Governing Board will translate the interests of their region and communities, providing strategic guidance, views, proposals, taking collective decisions on the Forum Strategy, and providing direction to the Forum Secretariat.

Membership is on an individual basis to ensure the independent voices of IPs & LCs are represented. Members should be well respected with relevant expertise to contribute to discussions and able to commit their own time to the Governing Board. A member who steps down will not be automatically replaced by someone from their organisation. Specific criteria are identified ensuring value for the multiple Governing Board seats, in order to ensure a global, diverse and inclusive decision-making group.
The Forum Governing Board will hold virtual 3-hour monthly meetings (excluding preparation and review) all year round, members should be able to attend the majority of these sessions for the full allocated time.

The role of a member in the Forum’s Governing Board will initially be for a two-year period, ongoing seat rotation and terms will be decided by the Forum Governing Board.
Additional meetings of the Governing Board, discussion groups or any required sub-committees may be scheduled as needed.

This position is currently unpaid until further notice. The Forum will cover expenses incurred in attending and fulfilling seat requirements.
