Thanks to generous funding provided by the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), the Small World Initiative is able to provide at least three travel awards – up to $2,000 each – for SWI Partner Instructors to attend the ASM Microbe meeting this June in Boston. Award funding may be used for your own travel or for your own and a student's travel to ASM Microbe.

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:
  • Your institution provides no financial support for you to travel to meetings.
  • You have made a contribution to the Small World Initiative, such as actively serving on a SWI Committee or sharing curricular materials.
  • You submitted your class reporting form for fall 2015 and spring 2016 (whether or not you taught the class) and your science data collection summary form (only for semesters in which you taught the class). The forms are available here.
Applications must be submitted by Monday, March 7th at 5pm EST. Any questions should be sent to the Leaders of the Symposium Committee (Jean Schmidt – schmidtj@pitt.edu – and Mustafa Morsy – mmorsy@uwa.edu).

Only complete applications submitted by the deadline will be considered. Winners will be selected based on the significance of contribution(s) to the Small World Initiative community and merit of personal statement.

Winners will be announced by April 1, 2016.
