Community Vision. A shared community vision is the foundation of planning in Iowa City. The Southwest District Plan, as a part of the City's Comprehensive Plan, strives to preserve and build upon Iowa City's assets and community character while supporting compatible, sustainable growth by:

  • Protecting and enhancing the environment;
  • Providing safe and efficient modes of travel;
  • Creating attractive and affordable housing and healthy, safe, and diverse neighborhoods;
  • Fostering communication between owners, developers, and tenants;
