RWN established Rural Women Connect to create a platform from which rural and regional women can voice their needs and concerns to government. An issue of concern to the group is violence against women – this can be expressed as physical, emotional, financial or social isolation. We know that 34% of women over the age of 16 will experience some form of partner initiated violence during their lifetime (Australian component of the International Violence Against Women Survey 2002-03). We would like your assistance in helping us understand the needs of women in rural and remote communities.

* 1. What is your postcode?

* 2. Are you aware of incidents occurring in your local community?

* 3. What would need to be in place to make it easy and safe for someone to seek help when faced with a violent incident?

* 4. Where would you go for information and support?

* 5. What services or support do you think are missing?

* 6. How do you think women experiencing domestic violence in rural and remote areas could be better supported?

* 7. Do you have any further comments?

Thank you for your input. If you need to talk to someone, you can call the Domestic Violence Line (24 hours) 1800 65 64 63. For more information about this questionnaire or RWConnect please contact RWN, Locked Bag 21, Orange NSW 2800 or email: or see our website:
