Application Process and Requirements for K-12 Transportation Assistance

Grant funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.  Funds are limited.  The Zoo cannot guarantee that all submitted requests will be granted.

This application is estimated to take 10 minutes to complete.  You will need your school/district federal and state tax ID numbers as part of your application.

1. Transportation assistance will only be provided to schools whose students participate in a Zoo-led educational experience (program or tour).  Funds are not provided for self-guided or teacher-led visits, nor for tours not booked or conducted by the Education department (e.g. behind-the-scenes tours).

2. Please have your  Zoo Education program and/or tour confirmation materials ready, as you will be asked to provide the event numbers from your confirmation. If you do not provide those event numbers, your application will be discarded as incomplete.

3. Funds will cover transportation costs only. Any program fees (limited scholarships available), tickets, lunches, or other required items are at the expense of the school/organization.

4. Schools must be Title 1 schools or schools with a minimum of 50% of the student population receiving free or reduced-price lunches.  Supporting documentation may be required.   Only K-12 schools are eligible for transportation assistance.

Failure to complete any part of this application will result in the application being denied and transportation assistance will not be provided.

Please read and acknowledge the statements below, in order to proceed.

Question Title

* 1. I understand that if awarded this grant,  I will arrange transportation with the bus company, per the school and/or district procedures, and my school/district will be responsible for paying the bus company directly. After the Zoo visit, in which the students will participate in an educational experience, I will submit to the Zoo a completed request for reimbursement, along with a copy of the bus company detailed invoice, within 10 business days of the Zoo visit.

Question Title

* 2. The Saint Louis Zoo will reimburse the school/district by cutting a physical check at the end of each calendar month, for transportation costs in the amount of the grant award (up to $300 per bus), or the final amount on the bus company invoice, whichever is LESS.  If my paperwork is submitted within the last 10 days of a month, the check will be cut to me the following calendar month.

Question Title

* 3. Failure to attend the scheduled educational experience(s) for any reason (including but not limited to: late bus arrival to the school, traffic delays, weather delays, and/or chaperone miscommunication), will result in transportation expenses not being reimbursed.   NOTE: If the school and/or the Zoo is closed due to inclement weather on the day of the scheduled program, the programs may be rebooked as schedules allow.
