Since 2012, the Nez Perce Education Department has partnered with the Idaho State Department of Education, Kamiah School District, and Lapwai School District to implement the Nez Perce State Tribal Education Partnership (STEP)  Project.  The purpose of the partnerships is to meet the unique educational and cultural needs of tribal students to improve their academic achievement and other components of whole child development.

The Nez Perce STEP staff provides technical assistance and capacity building support to the staff at Kamiah and Lapwai school districts focused on culturally-relevant curriculum, instruction, family engagement, leadership, and school environment.
