Program Description

Overview:

The Philadelphia Education Fund’s (PEF's) Afterschool STEM Fellows Program is a professional development series designed for K-12 School District of Philadelphia staff who work in public schools and wish to take their programs from concept to execution. We are seeking individuals who wish to enhance an existing or create a new afterschool program, or administer programs or work directly with students, PEF's McKinney Center for STEM Education will offer hands-on learning, peer support, and an opportunity to complete a practical Capstone Project. 

Goals:

* Equip participants with content knowledge and skillsets to design, administer, implement, and/or assess afterschool STEM programming.
* Offer program participants a network of peers through which to receive feedback and support.
* Cultivate students’ STEM content knowledge and interest in STEM careers.
* Design original Capstone Projects such as unique lesson plans, logic models, and assessment tools.

Details:

* Two identical 4-week courses will take place in July and August at PEF's Old City location. Note: given the ever-changing nature of the Pandemic, we may convert  these to virtual sessions.
* Each session will be held from 9:30-11:30 AM; the specific dates are listed on the following page.

* Each course will accommodate up to 25 staff and offer a stipend, a community of practice, online and material resources, and act 48 credits.
* Participants must commit to attending at least 6 of the 8 individual sessions and to completing a Capstone Project.
