Mission Statement:
Our mission at St. Cecilia Catholic School is the ongoing Catholic formation and education of the whole child in mind, heart and spirit, in preparation for an adult life of commitment and service.
St. Cecilia Catholic School's Four Pillars of Improvement:
1. Balanced Literacy: Developing a love and a passion for lifelong reading and writing is the goal of a balanced approach to teaching literacy. The St. Cecilia Balanced LIteracy framework will focus on engaging young readers and writers in authentic and independent reading and writing tasks that are proven to increase student learning and literacy. With new resources for teachers and students and the development of classroom libraries, our students will become better readers and writers and in the process, will also develop a love of reading and writing.
2. STREAM Integration: As we strive to prepare our students for the changing face of learning and the workplace in the 21st century, we will build capacity and resources in the areas of Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. From a 1-to-1 Chromebook initiative in grades 4 through 8, to greater access to tablets and online learning tools in PK-grade 3, to opportunities to explore robotics, engineering, and design principles in a 21st Century Learning Commons and Maker Space, STREAM integration will allow our students to further develop their critical thinking, higher order reasoning and complex problem-solving skills.
3. Caring Community: Rooted in relationships, and stemming from a foundation of love and logic, a Caring Community of learners and leaders establishes clear expectations for how we treat ourselves and how we treat each other. By developing a common language and a common understanding of what it means to be an active and contributing member of a caring community, our students and teachers will be able to focus on living the virtues of our faith and respecting the dignity of those in our community.
4. Assessment and Grading: We learn by receiving effective feedback. Effective feedback is specific, descriptive, timely, and can be acted upon. Best practices in assessment and grading are designed to improve student learning. By designing assessments that allow for more specific and descriptive feedback, teachers will be able to improve student learning and growth. By establishing grading practices that communicate student academic and non-academic achievement, our students and parents will be better informed of students' strengths and areas of opportunity.
