This survey is a collaborative effort between members of the Council for Nail Disorders and the European Nail Society. It is our business to look at nail disease and part of that can mean taking biopsies and obtaining histology. The nail unit is a difficult area to biopsy and tissue samples often have the contrasting materials of nail and skin in the same biopsy. This gives rise to a range of technical problems, which in turn can affect the quality of the histological sections and their assessment.
The survey takes you through a range of questions that illustrate points where techniques can differ and we want to know your tricks to solve the problems. You are likely to need to leave some questions unanswered as you will want to forward it to someone in your laboratory team to answer the technical questions. Answers from the joint membership of the CND and ENS will provide us with the basis for guidance to members which will be fed back to you.
