Information and Requirements

The Robert E. Loupo, Jr. “Legacy of Change” Scholarship is for Miami-Dade County Public Schools graduating seniors who are advocates and/or activists, dedicated to upholding the dignity, rights and equality of the entire LGBTQ community, both in school and at large. The scholarship money may only be used toward costs associated with college or post-secondary education.*

Robert E. Loupo, Jr. was a teacher and counselor who worked hard to make lasting changes in support for LGBTQ students in South Florida. Please read the background information to learn about him and his work. The scholarship is awarded to students who, like Loupo, have worked hard to overcome challenges and to educate and provide support for LGBTQ students in their school and community.

The amount to be awarded for 2019 is $1,000.00.

Applications are due by April 23, 2019.


1. M-DCPS Senior, contingent upon proof of graduation.

2. Student has actively led and/or participated in organizations and/or activities that support the LGBTQ community.

3. Leadership qualities, including leadership in school activities supporting the LGBTQ population, and in the community at large.

4. Reference from a teacher, counselor, or community leader verifying this application is accurate. (SSSF will follow up with reference.)

5. A resume delineating your record of activities and community service while in high school. Include any leadership roles.

6. A 250-500 word essay.
