Description

Keys to Developing an Effective Syringe Service Program and other related Evidence Based Practices and Partnerships to Enhance the MAI-CoC.

Syringe Service Programs (SSP’s) assist individuals who inject drugs to access sterile needles and syringes through health care services and partnerships. Several MAI-CoC Grantees are using funding to establish or enhance their current substance use and mental health treatment service programs, prevention and HIV & Hepatitis medical services with partnerships with Syringe Service Programs (SSP’s). Most programs also offer other related Evidence Based Practices(EBP’s) prevention or treatment approaches in the real world of integrated/co-located care settings (e.g., routine mental health screening).  This CoP will review CDC/HHS SSP and other EBP Guidance and provide examples of how these practices are implemented with fidelity while meeting the needs of the target community.  Grantees will be encouraged to share challenges and lessons learned with a cohort of other sites who will be also implementing these services.

·         Review resources and CDC/HHS guidance for the provision of SSP’s and other EBP’s

·         Review program data that is useful in the “determination of need”

·         Compare examples of SSP/EBP service delivery models

·         Develop protocols and procedures for successful implementation and
monitoring  of SSP/EBP in varied community settings

Session Dates: Wednesdays 2/22/17, 3/29/17, 4/26/17 at 2:00-3:00pm EST.
