Fall 2016 Parent Survey

Thank you for taking a few minutes to answer some important questions about our schools.  Answers you provide will help guide how we continue services and do business around the schools.  Input from parents is a valuable tool that helps guide our goals with the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP).  The following questions will be reviewed in the coming months as we continue to make changes to improve our programs.  Please fill-out the survey separately for each of your children in the District.

Thank you!

Question Title

* 8. The New California English-Language Arts Framework calls for a different approach to how we teach reading.  More emphasis is placed on the "Reader's Workshop" approach which calls for more sharing about the books we read and less emphasis on drill & kill activities that measure reading comprehension and accountability.  Students are expected to have more choice about what they read and spend more time sharing their emotions about the books they encounter.  The change is supported by research and is expected to create more enjoyment in reading and ultimately, less stress and hardship when it comes to expectations around learning to read.  With this in mind, will you please respond to the following statements:

  Yes No
My child prefers to have more of a choice about the books he/she reads.
My child enjoys reading materials other than novels (magazines, newpapers, blogs, etc...)
My child is excited to share their reading experience with our family members or their friends.
My child has difficulties completing reading assignments.
My child loves to read!

* 9. The District has adopted new English/Language Arts curriculum at all grade levels K-8.  The new state framework calls for a change in not only what is taught, but how we teach.  The "Benchmark" curriculum at grades K-5 and the "Collections" curriculum at grades 6-8 feature much more reading of non-fiction materials.   With this addition of non-fiction materials, students are able to connect their reading more and more to their daily lives.  Please rate the following comments regarding the teaching of Language Arts/Reading:
