RE: Baltimore Avenue/Harry Land Road Bike Path

On behalf of Mayor Wells, the Board of Trustees, and the Village of Mt. Zion staff, we invite you to express your support for an upcoming potential improvement to the Village's existing network of bicycle paths and sidewalks. The potential improvement would consist of the construction of approximately 1,600 feet of 10' wide concrete path along Harry Land Road from Sundance Drive to Baltimore Avenue.  The path would then turn south along Baltimore Avenue to the Glenwood assisted-living facility. An at-grade crossing at Harry Land Road at Baltimore Avenue would also be built in order to connect to the future Macon County bike path along Baltimore Avenue, and would be ADA accessible.

Funding for this project is currently being explored.  One potential funding source is the Illinois Enhancement Transportation Program (ITEP) administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.  The goal of ITEP is "to promote and develop alternative transportation options, including bike and pedestrian travel, along with streetscape beautification". Public support for competitive grants such as these is crucial to successful awarding.

If you would like to express your support for the project, please comment below under Question 1 by November 3, 2017.  Thank you for your time and interest in this project.
