Survey methodology:
For the best survey results, a morning count for 20 minutes of the birds you see, as well as any observations about them is ideal. Between 8am – 11am, try to record all bird species you see and their estimated number.
During the survey, if you can, identify the birds sex, their age (juvenile or adult), describe the habitat they were observed in (please describe) and how their presence was recorded (i.e. did you see it or hear it?) – all information is useful. Also note down any other observations about the birds, such as whether they were feeding, not feeding, nesting, and whether they were on the ground, amongst shrubs, or in trees.
The survey can take place in your backyard or closest park (you can attach a hand drawn map of where you surveyed if you like). You can do as many 20 minute surveys at different locations as you’d like. One is better than none!
