OVERVIEW

SNAME is pursuing the implementation of an extensive series of web-based training (WBT) and video on demand (VOD) continuing educational courses.  These courses will provide maritime and ocean professionals with access to fundamental, applied (non-academic), and practical knowledge of topics for engineers and non-engineers alike.  Successful completion of all course work in a given curriculum can lead to a second phase testing process and the issuing of SNAME Continuing Education and Certification Program (CECP) Certificates of Competence.

This Continuing Education Program will provide essential learning for any person in the marine industry who seeks a basic understanding of characteristics and requirements related to vessel and offshore unit new construction, repair, and major modification.  The CECP will provide great value to employees and employers alike, in particular to:

- those entering the industry without prior background or training in the field,

- new graduates entering the industry needing to quickly assimilate the practical information
normally acquired through years of on-the-job training, and

- corporations and small businesses needing to deepen the basic knowledge and understanding of marine vessels or offshore units by their employees.

In order to assess interest from SNAME’s broad and varied constituencies we are asking for your input.  Please complete this survey which should only take about 12 minutes and provide your comments/recommendations so that we may better serve you.

Employers interested in providing online continuing educational courses to employees as part of a corporate training program are requested to respond to Section I, Section III (questions 28 and 30), and Section IV.  You are welcome to contact SNAME directly for additional information:  Mr. Erik Seither; eseither@sname.org.
