Introduction

Fulfilling our Mission to serve together in the spirit of the Gospel as a compassionate and transforming healing presence requires us to be inclusive of our diverse greater Livonia community in both the health care and workplace we provide. The equity we aim for is best defined by our Core Values of Reverence and Justice, as equity is achieved when the sacredness and dignity of all is honored and right relationships are established for the common good.

In these past 8 months, disparities based on race and ethnicity in our community, country and throughout the world have been unavoidable to see. We know, however, that these racial and ethnic disparities, along with those based on gender and sexual orientation, have been long-standing and have affected all aspects of society, including our hospital. Now more than ever, we are called to work together to achieve equity in the health care and workplace we provide. It will require a renewed understanding of and commitment to our Mission, Core Values and Vision. It will take all of us.

Our first opportunity for colleagues to offer input and guidance is through the SMML iBelong Survey. The data collected, which will be shared with all SMML colleagues, will be used to understand the present climate and to inform current and future decisions to promote inclusion and equity.

•        Participation and responses are completely voluntary and strictly confidential. You may skip any question you do not feel comfortable answering and you may exit the survey at any time.

•        No individually identifiable information will be reported.

•        It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

From all of us on our Diversity & Inclusion Council and Executive Leadership Team, we appreciate you participating in this important work that is essential to fulfilling our Mission, Living Our Values and achieving our Vision.
