SMA Solar Project Survey
The AES Rancho Viejo Solar Project
As part of our Mission, we have created this short survey to understand your opinion about the upcoming application for the Rancho Viejo Solar Project by AES. The San Marcos Association has been granted legal standing in this matter that will include public hearings before the Santa Fe County Hearing Officer and the Santa Fe County Planning Committee and possibly the Santa Fe County Commissioners. This survey is not a "vote" of any kind, it's just an attempt to learn how our neighbors feel about this proposed project.
Information and specifications below taken from the Rancho Viejo Solar Project Application:
AES - Rancho Viejo Application, SF County Website
The map below shows the proposed location of the solar production facility (the green box shows the property boundaries where this installation would be located), which will include solar panels generating 96-MW of power, a battery energy storage system that can store 192 megawatt hours of energy in lithium-ion batteries racked in engineered battery enclosures. The entire facility will cover 680 fenced acres (approximately 1 sq. mile). 2.3 acres of land will be used for the battery storage containers. An additional corridor leading to a PNM transmission line will extend 2.3 miles and 100 ft. wide northeast of the proposed generating facility. The facility and corridor together measure 724 acres.
Solar panels will reach a maximum height of 8 ft while other structures on the site will generally be less than 15 ft. high with exception of a 60 ft. lightning mast and either an H-Frame structure at 50 ft high or a monopole at 70 ft. high. The gen-tie line to the PNM transmission site will be supported by either 50 ft. high H-Frames every 250-350 ft, or 70 ft. monopole structures every 250-450 ft.

The survey should take 1 - 2 minutes to complete.
