WCF Carillon Practise Keyboard

The Executive Committee of the WCF started the subcommittee WCF Carillon Practise Keyboard, with the following members:

- Keiran Cantilina (USA), engineer and chairman of the subcommittee
- Scott Orr (GB), engineer and member of the WCF executive committee
- Kayla Shames (USA), engineer
- Koen Van Assche (B), member of the WCF executive committee

and the following external advisors:

- Jon Lehrer (USA), built his own practise keyboard
- Joey Brink (USA), conducted in 2017 an inquiry regarding practise keyboards, resulting in a small prototype
- Adrien Parret (FR), organ builder, made two carillon keyboards

This subcommittee wants to design a plan for a build your own carillon practise keyboard, partly with materials that you can find in any hardware store, supplemented with materials that are manufactured by the WCF and resold at cost (e.g. keys, springs, front panel, tone bars), both in the USA and in Europe to keep shipping costs low, but delivery can be done worldwide. The intention is to publish a detailed step-by-step plan for building it yourself, with specifications of all the materials required.

It will be a keyboard with tone bars (not electronic), as much as possible according to the standard "WCF Keyboard 2006" (also known as the "worldstandard"). It is possible that some compromises will have to be made to reduce costs. The result of this project will be presented at the WCF World Carillon Congress in Mafra in 2026.

This survey aims to investigate how many people would be interested in purchasing such a keyboard/plan.
