2022 Summit Suggested Topics

Question Title

* 1. Though the Summit was geared towards Appalachia, we were delighted to learn that we reached interested stakeholders from other parts of the United States. As mentioned in our closing, we plan to develop a follow-up Summit this year (2022), and while we will continue to focus on the special challenges facing the elimination of hepatitis C in Appalachia, we intend to look for knowledge experts and best practices from other parts of the U.S. that could be translated and adapted to serve vulnerable populations in Appalachia and other rural areas around the country.

Based on analytical feedback and follow up conversations with the Summit Planning Committee, the following themes were suggested as topics for 2022.

Adapting low-barrier treatment models for PWID in harm reduction & substance use disorder treatment settings

Understanding micro-elimination approaches to HCV elimination (PWID; prisons)

Learning from PWID: voices of people with lived experience on stigma, health care, and resilience

Gender-informed approaches to meeting the needs of women who inject drugs (including pregnancy/perinatal transmission)

Syndemic approaches to viral hepatitis, HIV, and STIs for PWIDs in the context of the overdose crisis
