Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF) Funding Survey

Overview
In September 2017, the Australian Law Students’ Association held its annual September Council. There was a general consensus from Council that ALSA should advocate on behalf of LSS/A’s access to Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF)  funding. It was determined that the education team will create a ‘best practice’ guidelines policy for the distribution of SSAF funding that ALSA would advocate for national use.

Research and Method
Over the next few months, the education portfolio will be conducting research on SSAF distribution in Australia. This will include research into SSAF legislation and policy, compared to the anecdotal stories of LSS/A’s and their university’s practice.

As a preliminary matter, we would love to hear the perspectives from law societies about their experience with SSAF. We ask that one representative of each LSS/A take a moment to complete this short survey.  If you don’t know the answer to any questions please put N/A and we can look into it on your behalf.

All information collected from this survey will be kept completely confidential and will not be distributed to anyone outside the ALSA committee. Information contained in the published report will be anonymous and will be used to put together our guidelines by targeting the issues identified.

Outcome
An anonymous summary of results from the survey and a proposed best practices guideline will be released at February Council 2018. Following council feedback and upon approval from LSS/A’s we will begin advocating on behalf of Council and will produce a result at July Conference 2018.
