SIJSDP 2020 Mentor Application
World Learning seeks 8 professionals to serve as mentors for 80 youth as part of the Southern Iraq Job Skills Program in southern Iraq.
The position is volunteer based and includes a small monthly stipend. The program duration is 8 months: April to November 2021

Program Structure
· 80 participants will be selected equally from the four southern cities (Basra- Dhi Qar- Maysan- Muthana), 20 students per city.
· The 20 students will be divided into two groups.
· Each group will be paired with one local mentor.
· For eight months (April 2021- November 2021) students will participate in the programs’ activities and tasks according to the monthly curriculum customized for the program.
· The curriculum focuses on exploring career pathways and accessing professional networks.
· Mentors will convene formal group meetings once each month to lead a reflection on the previous module and introduce the next month’s module.
· All program participants will meet three times with World Learning employee for a mentoring session for each group during the program.
· All participants will meet together at the beginning and end of the program which will include leadership training, group building, and networking.
Role of the Mentor:
● Serve as a mentor for a student group of 10 students
● Help students understand curriculum and encourage their participation in activities
● Facilitate group discussions on curriculum as outlined in the mentor guide
● Meet monthly with your student group
● Attend all program groups events (opening ceremony, and a closing event for all participants).
● Monitor student learning, make yourself accessible to students, and conduct regular check-ins with them
● Maintain close communication with participants and program coordinators
● Report any incidents or problems to the program coordinators
● Report monthly participant progress (World Learning Template)
Desired Qualifications:
● Current professional in the business or NGO sector
● Significant youth work experience, preferably in the southern area
● Bachelor’s Degree or higher
● Experience working with youth
● Strong communication
