Introduction

Do you want to build your self-awareness and grow your organization's diversity, equity and inclusion practices to take your team - and you - to the next level? If so, join us for the second Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Leadership Circle in Staten Island.

Why focus on DEI?
The major issues tackled by the nonprofit sector, such as poverty, homelessness, mass incarceration, education, immigration, and health, are structurally shaped by race, class, and gender, among other factors. For this reason, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are critical values for any organization focused on social justice. However, nonprofits have traditionally faced challenges putting these values into practice within their own organizations.

Embracing DEI as organizational values and intentionally translating these into practice deepens organizational impact. Data shows that a diverse workforce boosts decision-making quality, fosters innovation, and brings unique perspectives that advance the nonprofit’s mission. In addition, an evolving sociopolitical environment has heightened the vulnerability of various groups — immigrants, Muslims, people of color, women, and LGBTQIA individuals — reinforcing the need for more innovative approaches to tackling inequity from the inside-out.

About CRE's DEI Leadership Circle
CRE’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Leadership Circle is a series of six 120-min interactive sessions over five months for executive directors of Staten Island-based nonprofits that will give you the tools and strategic guidance you need to  deepen your identity awareness and leadership capacities for advancing not only diversity and inclusion, but more importantly, equity within and beyond your organization; and to help your organization craft and implement strategies to translate the core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion into organizational practice.

In the Staten Island DEI Leadership Circle, you will collaborate with 15 peers to share experiences and problem-solve on specific personal, inter-personal and institutional challenges and opportunities that each participant brings, and we will come together to discuss practical tools you can immediately use at your nonprofit to help your team reach its DEI goals. You will also have the opportunity to reflect on your development through real-time input from course participants.

All sessions will be held from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the offices of the Staten Island Foundation (260 Christopher Lane) on the following dates: Sept 6th, Sept 20th, Oct 11th, Nov 1st, Dec 6th, and Jan 10th.

The deadline is August 2, 2018.
