Course Description

Forensic Chemistry Overview

This one-hour training session provides CFS clients with an overview of the Chemistry Section’s services, including explosives, chemical identification, fire debris, paint, polymers, fibres, tapes, physical match (polymer, metal, paint, and fabric), hair identification, textile damage assessment, gunshot residue (GSR), serial number restoration, metal, and glass analysis.  Case studies are provided to illustrate how the Chemistry Section can assist you in investigations. 

By the end of the session, participants will demonstrate knowledge of CFS examinations that facilitate:
1. identification of unknown items
2. interpretation of sequence of events
3. identification of potential relationships between objects, individuals and/or locations
4. understanding of the role of the Chemistry section in communicating results (reports, court testimony)
