Sexual Health Education Program

Per district leadership, after your school site has distributed Parent Notification Letters to parents of all students receiving the comprehensive sexual health education via one of the methods described below and completed an autodialer message to these parents, and provided an opportunity for parents to preview the curriculum, principals will complete and submit this form stating that they have completed this process. Please email Summer Hellewell at shellewell@sandi.net if you have any questions about this form or the parent/guardian sexual health education notification process.
Read, Complete Steps #1-3, and Submit this Form by Friday, September 29, 2023.

NOTE: Step 4 will occur closer to instruction, and by submitting the verification form you understand your site’s responsibility for this additional parent notification step.

1. Send Parent Notification Letters (letter templates in multiple languages are available here) need to be distributed to parents/guardians of all students receiving the comprehensive sexual health education via at least one of the following methods:
  • Included in the enrollment packet distributed to students.
  • Mailed to the homes of parents/guardians.
  • Emailed to parents/guardians.
  • Distributed to parents/guardians in another method commonly used by your site.
2. Arrange an autodialer message to parents/guardians of those students receiving the instruction to notify them of the letter being sent home.

3. Provide an opportunity for parents to preview the materials by implementing either option at the beginning of the school year:

a. Conduct an onsite in-person Parent Preview meeting
so that parents/guardians can preview instructional materials. These meetings may be held in conjunction with Open House or other scheduled school events. Information and materials for the curriculum preview meeting are available from SHEP. Please email Summer Hellewell at shellewell@sandi.net two weeks prior to your scheduled Parent Preview meeting to ensure delivery of materials.

OR…

b. Send families a link to pre-recorded curriculum previews
(in English and Spanish). This communication should include a message that if parents have questions they should contact their school’s principal. If the principal cannot answer the question, they may forward it to Summer Hellewel at shellewell@sandi.net for assistance.

4. Send a reminder notification to parents/guardians approximately two weeks prior to the curriculum being taught. The Sex Ed teachers at your site may send this second notification, please work with them to ensure this step is completed.

5. Complete this online Sexual Health Education Parent Notification Verification Form, verifying that parents/guardians have been notified by both letter (electronic or written) and autodialer, have been sent information about an onsite in-person Parent Preview event or the link to the pre-recorded curriculum previews, and will be reminded again at least two weeks prior to instruction.
