Sexual Health Education Advisory Committee Application 2026-2027

Selection Criteria
: This committee is mandated by the district's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)'s Improving Adolescent Well-Being Through What Works in Schools Program cooperative agreement (CDC-RFA-DP-24-0139) and supports all grant-required activities. SHEAC members must also sign and return a
Membership Agreement
prior to their first SHEAC meeting stating their commitment to assist in implementing all CDC grant, state, and district requirements and policies. SHEAC has a maximum of 20 members plus up to 5 additional current district student members. Per CDC guidelines, SHEAC members must:
Attend online meetings regularly, typically on a Wednesday every other month from 4:00-5:00pm.
Have some knowledge of the science of HIV/STIs and current evidence-based HIV/STI/unplanned pregnancy prevention methods.
Serve all district students directly as a staff member, community partner, student, and/or parent of a current district student.
Agree to provide guidance to the district's Sexual Health Education Program (SHEP) and other district efforts intended to implement and uphold:
The framework and requirements of the
California Healthy Youth Act
.
The Board-approved
Rights, Respect, Responsibility
curriculum in grade 6, grade 8, and high school.
Strategies to communicate minors' rights to access sexual health services in accordance with California state laws and district policy.
Programs to support safe school environments for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, nonbinary, and gender expansive students.
