School Feeding Program Sint-Maarten

Since October 2017, the Netherlands Red Cross in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth & Sports, with the support of the St. Maarten Red Cross, has been running a school food program. Through this program the Red Cross has been providing 4,000 primary school children with two meals a day (breakfast and lunch), served every school day free of charge.

Breakfast consist of:
·         a piece of fruit: apple, banana, papaya, pineapple or grapes
·         a drink: apple juice, orange juice, milk or yoghurt drink
·         a carbohydrate source: chocolate bun, raisin bun cornflakes or a piece of cake
The breakfast follows a 5-day menu, which is repeated every week except the fruits. The fruits are varied in a two-week pattern.

The warm lunches consist of:
·         A source of carbohydrate: pasta, rice, sweet potato, mashed potato, etc.
·         Vegetables
·         Meat, fish or eggs
Lunch follows a 20-day menu which is repeated every 20 days.

The Red Cross school food program will be further extended over the coming months. To continuously improve what we are doing, we would like to get your opinion, to understand if the program is meeting the needs of the St. Maarten community, especially the most vulnerable members, and supporting in the recovery from Hurricane Irma.

The school your child, or children, is/are attending is a part of the Red Cross school food program. We would be very thankful if you could help us improve our program by answering the following questions. Your opinion is very important for us, and with it, we will be able to make small adjustments to make it better and ensure it is relevant for the community.

Many thanks in advance.
