The Food Bank is seeking to engaging with partners in a co-learning environment to discover together what cultural communities want as culturally responsive menu enhancements. The Food Bank seeks 10-15 community organizations across San Francisco and Marin who will be intentionally and strategically selected to represent members of the community.

Awardees will gather information from their participants/clients to gather first-voice data that will help us collectively understand what people eat, how they eat, and what foods are culturally relevant. We aim to support the deep relationships community organizations have with their clients to gather robust direct input from a large group of clients, and then to learn together what is said by our clients from a wide variety of cultural communities - so that we can all ultimately have the information we need to be able to collectively offer more relevant food options.

The organizations selected to participate will be compensated for their efforts facilitating surveying and interviewing of participants. We also aim to collectively use this information to identify overlap (if any) of food preferences between multiple cultural communities.

Awardees are provided with options for how they want to engage on this project, depending on their wisdom about the most effective way to connect with the communities they serve and their organizational capacity. Options include:
  • Gathering client survey data using a survey form provided by the Food Bank
  • Organizing focus groups of their clients that would be led by the Food Bank
  • Directly facilitating/leading focus groups in addition to organizing focus groups of their clients
  • Providing input and feedback on the post-project report, and making meaning together about how we we've learned can be leveraged for greater impact.
