Background, Eligibility, and Objectives
It is critical that every San Francisco resident be accurately and completely counted in the 2020 Census. The San Francisco Complete Count Committee (SFCCC) has identified additional needs and gaps for census outreach, education, and questionnaire assistance to City residents living in hard-to-count communities. New funds to supplement the current 2020 Census Outreach and Education grants program are now available. These additional gap funds are reserved for San Francisco-based non-profit, community-based organizations that are not already receiving funding from the City and County of San Francisco Office of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Affairs (OCEIA), United Way of the Bay Area, or San Francisco Foundation to do census-related outreach and education work.

- LGBTQ+ Community
- Limited English Proficient (LEP) Communities speaking:
- Russian
- Vietnamese
- Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) Communities
- People Experiencing Homelessness
- People with Disabilities
- Seniors/Older Adults
- Native Americans/American Indians & Tribal Communities
- Underrepresented neighborhoods in San Francisco (Crocker-Amazon, Ingleside, Lakeshore, Outer Mission, Parkside, the Richmond, the Sunset, and Visitacion Valley)
Funding:
There are approximately 20 grants available ranging from $1,000-$9,500.

- Provide form filling assistance
- Serve as a publicly-advertised Census Help Center
- Organize and execute awareness-building census events in and for hard-to-count communities
- Conduct census outreach targeting hard-to-count community members in public spaces (churches, laundromats, etc.) and at community events (festivals, block parties, etc.)
Eligibility:
To be eligible to receive a SFCCC Gap Grant, community-based organizations must meet the following criteria:

- Be a registered nonprofit organization (501(c)3)
- Be based in San Francisco, and propose activities that take place primarily within San Francisco
- Not already receiving any 2020 Census grant funding from the City and County of San Francisco or any other funders
Timeline:
Grant activities must take place February through August 2020 during the census self-response and non-response follow-up periods.
Expectations:
Grantees will be required to report their funded activities on a weekly basis, submit a final report at the end of their grant period, attend relevant meetings and training sessions as directed, and comply with all local, state, and federal guidelines pertaining to the 2020 Census.
