Research Procedures
You are invited to participate in a study conducted by Lily Lopez-McGee, a doctoral student at George Mason University. We hope to learn about college students’ perceived self-efficacy before and after they have studied abroad.

The survey will take approximately 10-20 minutes to complete. The survey questions will include topics related to your previous travel experience, study abroad program, goals for your study abroad program, and general sense self-efficacy.

Risks
There are no foreseeable risks for participating in this research.

Benefits
There are no benefits to you as a participant other than to further research in study abroad goals and self-efficacy.

Confidentiality
Your responses will be confidential. We will ask for your name and email address as we plan to send a second survey to you once you have returned from studying abroad. A code will be placed on the survey and other collected data, and through the use of an identification key the researcher will be able to link your survey to your identity. However, only the researcher will have access to the identification key. All data is stored in a password protected electronic format. To help protect your confidentiality, any personal identifiers will be saved in a separate document from the survey responses. While it is understood that no computer transmission can be perfectly secure, reasonable efforts will be made to protect the confidentiality of your transmission.

In order to invite you to complete the reentry survey you will be asked to include your email to be contacted later. If you select to be entered into the drawing, your email will also be used to contact you regarding the cash award. After the submission of your responses, identifying information will be separated from your responses. The results of this study will be used for scholarly purposes only.

Participation
Your participation is voluntary, and you may withdraw from the study at any time and for any reason. If you decide not to participate or if you withdraw from the study, there is no penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. There are no costs to you or any other party Students who complete both the pre-departure survey in December 2016 and a reentry survey to be sent in January 2017 will have the opportunity to enter a drawing to win two (2) $150. Students who complete both surveys will be asked if they would like to be contacted for a six-month follow-up survey. Participation in the six-month follow up survey is not required, and students will have the opportunity to select not to be contacted following the second survey.
