The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries – in the Global South and North - in a global partnership. They are a useful framework to link social, economic and sustainable development, acknowledging the imperative to end poverty and tackle climate change.

The Sustainable Development Goals are 17 high-level goals and associated 169 targets agreed in September 2015 by the members of the UN to guide and co-ordinate action to address a broad range of interconnected development issues until 2030. Galway City Community Network is about to undertake some work to explore how the SDGs can be relevant to Galway and we are on the commitment in the Local Economic and Community Plan to advance capacity and commitment to drive implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. To that end we are looking for expressions of interest form GCCN members to join a Working Group that will also include members of a number of statutory organisations in the city.

If you are interested in this exciting initiative, please let us know.

Diary Date
The first meeting of the Working Group will take place remotely on Friday October 30th at 12pm.
