About the Baltimore Sustainable Cities Initiative

In 2015, Baltimore was selected as one of three US cities to pilot implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.  The agenda is based around 17 Sustainable Development Goals that form integrated aspirations the world commits to achieving by 2030. They address the most pressing global challenges of our time, calling upon collaborative partnerships across and between countries around the areas of economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion.

An #SDGBaltimore coordinating team has been leading working group sessions with the aim of placing these global goals into the local Baltimore context by developing a set of key indicators for each goal. We have a preliminary set of 3-4 indicators for each goal that are available, actionable, and has explanatory power of what's important in Baltimore to achieve each goal.

We would like to extend the invitation for you to give us your opinion of the set of indicators for each goal.

We have identified the following indicators for Goal #15: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.

• Tree Canopy Coverage Rate
• Number of Urban Agriculture Projects
• Number of Species Observed in BioBlitz
